Is it worth doing a mega food shop in JB from time to time. are there any restrictions?

Yes it's worth it if you're driving your own car.

Else, maybe you could bring an empty big luggage, and take the Ktm train back into Singapore. I.e. easier carrying of all the things you'd buy.

Restricted items include things like major bad drugs, meat, certain plants, etc. Not too sure, you could probably check out www.ica.gov.sg? If alcohol or cigarette, there'd be taxes tied to it.

If you're buying just dry groceries, it'd be fine.

used to be restrictions on cooking oil, sugar, etc but i think it is OK now. you should be OK as long as you are not buying it for your restaurant in singapore!
