where to buy classic children's board games

Post by hornedfrog » Sat, 11 Apr 2009 10:15 pm

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy classic board games that are appropriate for 3 year olds. I'm especially looking for a game called Chutes and Ladders. I've tried several Toys R Us stores and several shops at United Square. Most stores sell very educational games, but I'm looking for something simpler.

Thanks,
Christie

There's an excellent store in the basement of Tanglin Mall, opposite McDonalds.

Very many traditional games and puzzles and whatnots, a lot of them in wood.

(Ahem, my wife bought me a table-football (soccer) game last year . . . all wood and so very much fun)

You'll not be able to walk out without buying something.

They definitely have Chutes and Ladders at Toys-R-Us in the Forum - but I've only seen the Dora the Explorer edition. They also have Candyland, Junior Boggle (says on the box for 3 - but more for 4 year old), & Connect Four. If you walk to the back of the store right before the bikes/swim stuff - all of the board games are back there - they also have different versions of childhood games you might remember like Monkeys in a Barrel, the one where you "fish", "Rat in a Stack" :o (you poke all the pegs in the holes until the rat pops out of the stack) ... etc. The store Vaucluse mentioned is "The Better Toy Store" - they also have another outlet in Nee Ann City on the 4th Floor. There are some fantastic wooden toys for younger kids - ones you would keep to pass on.

There is also a shop in Tanglin Mall on Level 2 next to Collettes that has lots of board games and may have what you are looking for.

That's the one, thanks for jogging my memory.

We've bought many things there . . . spot on when you say they are good to pass on.

wow that is so cool, didn't know there were such stores around! Will definitely drop by Tanglin Mall someday to have a look. Surely there are useful games for classes yea?
