school on east coast for 4 year old

Post by SanFranMamma » Wed, 08 Apr 2009 1:11 pm

Hello! We just arrived and are looking at schools on the east coast for our 4 year old. We are fairly flexible as long as it feels like the right fit. We do not have a school allowance, so cost is an issue. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!

Hi there
I highly recommend you check out Rosemount Kindergarten. We placed our son their and so far we have had smiles all round. :) It’s not as big as some of the larger school franchises around Singapore, which is a bonus because we found most had a very McDonald’s style approach to education. Rosemount has a great curriculum too that gets the kids thinking and having fun with learning, plus the teachers show a lot of flare and enthusiasm. That’s very important to us because many schools we visited felt like glorified, over priced holding pens for kids.
Just one more thing, after doing the rounds we found that Rosemount has a very reasonable fees structure and they don’t try to hit you up massive ongoing infrastructure fee, which was a common trend with some schools we canvassed.
Anyway that’s enough out of me :D
Happy trails

Preschools in the east

Post by GaiaGirl » Mon, 13 Apr 2009 11:11 am

If you're looking for small schools, I've heard good things about Pat's Schoolhouse, Brighton Montessori, BestCare Montessory and Odyssey in the east. White Lodge may also be a good option for you, although I understand they have recently moved. Rosemount is a good little school in Siglap, but they have recently hiked up tuition fees so that full-time students must pay as much if not more than at Canadian School or Chatsworth East, and Rosemount does not have the facilities/programs to match.

Contrary to PP we are extremely happy with Rosemount Kindergarten. Our little one has been there for two years and loves it. The price raise was of no surprise to us. I can’t think of a product or service that I use, which hasn’t gone up in price over the last two years.
Plus the house is far from rundown, in fact the warm and homely environment that the school offers was one of the reasons we chose Rosemount.

Wow, I thought this was supposed to be an advice forum! :???:
And not just a place to vent bitter comments when you have an axe to grind.
My mistake!

Dear bward, dbooth, hweller, cmorgan, etc.,

No bitterness or axes here. This is an advice forum, not an advertising forum, and parents come to seek honest feedback from other parents who've been there/done that. Sugary ads disguised as advice are not helpful; frank and honest opinions are.

Our son goes to White Lodge, which has recently moved to East Gate Building in Katong.

While I am not that impressed with the new premises, I AM impressed with the teachers and general tone of the school. Our son has had a number of issues which have been handled pretty well by the school - unlike other places which seem to be less tolerant.

In all, happy with them, the fees are reasonable and its well run.
