Fake Duracell Batterries from Giant

Post by Thaiclan » Wed, 08 Apr 2009 9:18 am

Hi everyone,
I'm sure that the Duracell batteries on sale at Giant are fakes. I bought a large pack of AA's and when I got home I discovered they had leaked and congealed in the package. I returned them and got a new set. I'm using a baby monitor at the moment so I know that 4 AA"s keep the monitor going for 7 - 10 days. However these ones need replacing after 2 days. I checked online and Googled "check fake Duracell batterries" and there are several website giving the differences. Sure enough the package that I have most definately passes the "fake checks". I'll be returning them to Giant today, so that should be interesting to see how that goes.
So if you've bought some Duracell's from anywhere you may want to check whether they are the real things.

Thanks for that information, I checked the ones I have in the drawer purchased from Giant and same thing, fake! Also noticed they weren't performing up to par.

Also noted a few 3m and WD-40 products purchased around town to be fakes. (Actually wrote the companies in question to complain, included code date and sku number) They wrote back and let me know the products were not made by them.

I bought a pirated CD from an established CD chain in town. When I got it home and unwrapped it, the 'jacket' (the printed sleeve) was a poor color copy with typos  I brought it back and they denied it, but it was very obvious. A shoddy, poorly made battery could ruin an expensive device, I'd take them back to the store and bring it to their attention.

Pakjohn, good for you. Well done! =D>

Update

No problems with Giant. They gave me a cash refund even though I didn't have my receipt. The customer service lady asked me if I wanted to swap them so I went and took a look at the battery section but sure enough all the Duracell on the shelves were fake (this is the Parkway Parade Giant). I gave her the copy of the print out from the internet site I used to check so hopefully they can check with their supplier.
I also handed her several packs from their shelve and showed her how furry and soapy they all were inside the boxes.

So do you think Giant was trying to pull a fast one or was it their supplier? I've always believed in caveat emptor, but after that awful melamine scandal, we all have to be more diligent of what we buy. Sad but true.

I'm not sure if it's Giant or their suppliers, but the paperwork can't be in order if they were real Duracells. I will be interested to see tomorrow if Giant still has the Duracell batteries on their shelves even though they now know they are fake.......
