Hi jrMaryland--I'm from Baltimore too! My kid is one of a growing number of expats kids who attend Pei Tong Primary in the Clementi area in the west-ish part of Singapore.

Please do try to get your daughter into the local school! My daughter loves it, and so do a few other Expat kids whose parents are interested in the entire SG experience. Do call the MOE hotline and find out which schools have vacanies in your area. There may be quite a few with the exodus of lots of expats (not just from the "international" schools but from local schools as well).

Your daughter would probably be in Primary 1 transitioning into Primary 2 in January 2010. It would be good if you can get her started early so she'll have friends at school who also live close. On your look-see visit, try to visit some of the schools. I personally called and made appointments with three local schools while we were searching--at all three the Principal walked us around. This was the VIP treatment compared to the International Schools we visited--one even forgot we were coming. Sheesh!

Good luck, and do PM me if you have any questions. Yes--you can get Old Bay here but it costs an arm and a leg. :)

hello We were just relocating from NYC to here on July.. I am having a very hard time to look for school for my 7 year old son. I have tired to contact more than 20 local schools around East coast and Bedok area, i was told that no vacancy at all since we are foreigners. i had to enroll my son into Canadian International School, but i think the school is too easy going with kid's study, no homework, no pressure & expensive. I think the local school system here are not helping foreigner at all.

I called MOE two days ago. I was told all local schools in Singapore are now full and to go put my child's name on the waiting list with a school directly.

I'm confused. Why do you expect the local school system to help foreigners?
