I told them that I want to see all documentations first before I commit to anything. 1 month later, i incurred a triple repeat transaction, totaling more than $100. Imagine my shock that my request for documentations/T&C for their policy ended up signing me on their policy and charging me for it.

AND Citibank wants to charge me for me to view the sales draft when a call to their 24H banking hotline gave me the detail of the suspected vendor instantly. And it took them 2 days to reply to my internal email requesting for details of the suspect transaction. Tsk tsk tsk, and they call themselves the bank that never sleeps.

Have subsequently sent an email to ACE customer service email and will follow up with call tomorrow. If they still do not bank in back my money within 1 week, not sure lodging a complaint to Consumers Tribunal will help speed things up.

Somehow I would like to think that Citibank is not working together with ACE. I also would like to believe that ACE Insurance practice ethical selling methods but this thread is making me think 2x!

Exactly what product did the "person" try and sell to you via Citibank? Did the "person" say they were from Citibank or ACE?

I had a call with regards to saving $500 in discounts from City bank, could she send the documents by courier to be signed. I just replied direct me to the website with the offers of the bank, I'm pretty sure it's a 3rd party marketing effort as they seem to have all the banks customers probably purchased from the bank, it's not the bank that's for sure, that's why i suspected the OP was an advertiser to pull people in.

it is hard sell and they refuse to let you see the hard copy .. and they are only selling on behalf of the bank, and charge to your card .. :D :D

Win win - bank makes money, and the insurance company makes money ..

DO NOT BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE FROM ACE INSURANCE

Post by Ricky_spore » Wed, 06 Jul 2011 9:29 am

Our family was stranded at Syndey due to Ash cloud situation because of Chile Volcano and as a result the airport was shut down. All flights were canceled including ours.
I bought Ace Insurance Travel Policy and it clearly mentioned that one can claim for the delayed flight due to 'adverse weather condition'. However, after taking pains to lodge the claim with so much paper work, ACE responded with the standard cut and paste of their policy, where there is nothing mentioned about the delay of flight due to Volcanic Ash, hence insurance is rejected.
Obviously many other fellow Singaporeans would have been stranded during June due to this situation and ACE would have been getting lots of claims like these, so inorder to protect the company’s interest and $, they are rejecting all such claim. People buy insurance for the inconvenience caused in a foreign country and only to meet with more inconvenience at the hands of Insurance companies like ACE Insurance to make a claim.
If Volcanic Ash is not specifically mentioned in the section of the delayed flight, shouldn't the benefit of doubt go to the customer than the Insurance company who also did not have anything in their clause on this topic and on top of it not willing to consider "adverse weather condition" due to volcanic ash.
This is absolutely bizarre and it is humble request to everyone NO TO BUY TRAVEL INSURANCE FROM ACE INSURANCE. Thanks for your attention and support.
Regards.

Hi Ricky,
I suggest that you contact a) the press and b) the MAS with your complaint and insist that you get an answer. Insurance companies are notoriously bad in SG for promising the world and then not paying up. I recently had a company - Chartis - send me 2 communications regarding an upcoming trip I'm taking:
1st email - you're covered, but only up to a point
2nd email - I agree, there is nothing in the policy that says that you're only covered up to said point.
I got the MAS involved and the agreed to honour the terms of the policy :D and not some random strange rule that they felt like implementing when they felt like it!
Cheers
Kim

ACE are paying out for legitimate claims due to the Chile volcanic ash. What date did you purchase the insurance?

I sympathise with you . I was in Chch too and had to cancel flights back to Melbourne. The thing is, SG Insurance companies are one the dodgiest in the business. There are the worst blood suckers in the face of this earth when comes to claims especially travelling and loss of personal property insurance. What you can do is download the events and cancelation from the newpaper website to support your claim
I have no problem claiming my incovenience with the Ozzie Kraut insurer
