No, its very simple. I passed first time with half an hour to spare. Its mostly common sense, e.g. Which of the following would you do when the road is wet, A-Speed up. B-Slow down. C-Stay at home..
youll be fine if you already have a license and just converting. There is a book you can buy from bookstores with all the info you need

No Need for international, I had a UK licence, took the test after reading the book (well worth getting) test is very easy and they did the paperwork on the spot at the testing center - got my actual licence a week or so later - fast, efficient, Singapore :D

I am currently in the process of preparing myself for this.

Seeing how badly people drive here, I am hoping there are not many rules and highway codes to learn.

There are lots of rules here. The test is OK if you prepare for it well.

However, I am still convinced that most Singaporeans get their driving licence handed out with their first portion of chicken rice when they turn 18. Either that or there must be a huge stockpile in a field somewhere.

They can't actually have taken a driving test

The basic theory written test seemed very easy to me... I completed it in 12 minutes (you get an hour). You can't miss very many and there are some slightly tricky ones... OTOH, there are gems like: You drive through deep water and get your brakes wet. You should a) drive fast to air dry them, b) drive uphill to make the water drain out, c) lightly pump the brakes to dry them out. Get the theory book at most bookstores, pay attention to the numbers... like age/weight of children needing a safety seat, pay attention to lane markings... you'll be fine.

Singaporeans go through and extensive driving course to drive... 14 lessons I think before you even get out on the road. I don't think they are better or worse than anywhere else. Better in the sense that traffic is somewha slower than US or Europe.

You should try driving around the Ubi Avenue/Road area at the weekend with all the leaner drivers causing havoc everywhere. It reminds me of the old arcade game Astroids!

This is very funny. Same same at BBDC... a ton of them pouring out in the morning... first into the nearby petrol station... mass confusion.

I guess I'm an idiot because I thought the test was pretty hard. You can only get 2 or 3 wrong out of 50. And the questions were very specific in some cases and the answers couldn't be guessed.

Take a look at the practice area behind BBDC if you want a good laugh. They have a practice course back there.

I just showed them my US license which - in my case - had all the information they needed in regards to my driving history.

That's news to me... and I saw it on a website. Where did you go for your conversion? I was at BBDC... I needed my license and an extract to show origin date since my license did not.

It does not look like the IDL is mandatory... check this SPF webpage about 3/4 down.

http://driving-in-singapore.spf.gov.sg/ ... ersion.htm

"Where the authenticity of a driving licence is in question, you may be asked to produce other documents for further verification. Such documents may include but not limited to International Driving Permit and driving licence extract from the licence issuing authority that issued your licence and endorsed by a notary public."

my BTT is on this 18th...my firend apparently went to the bukit batok center on 15th apr to give his BTT, he passed...proceeded for conversion and then he was asked for the IDL...luckily he had recently got the IDL when he went to india...the thing is they had actually asked for it...altough his normal license was in endlish...moreover everysingle person from what he saw, who was converting the license were asked to show the IDL..now im in a fix whether to proceed for conversion if i pass my test on the 18th apr as i do not have the IDL...but factually it does not make sense to show the IDL from wat i hav understod from the gov. site...
