Job Interviews in Singapore

Post by sajeewaw » Thu, 26 Mar 2009 8:10 pm

Hi All,
I am an EPEC holder and willing to move to SG in a couple of weeks. I have a few question with regard to formalities/customs which are inherent to SG. Appreciate if any one can help me.

1. I am searching for an IT job, so what is the accepted dress code for interviews as well as in day to day work environment in IT companies?

2. What is the general procedure of hiring in SG? ie. aptitude tests, levels of interviews etc.

3. Are there any best practices to follow with respect to interviews in SG (Reason is I have never dealt with people with chinese origin/culture)

Thank you!

You might get interviewed by an Indian, Chinese, Malay, Eurasian, Caucasian. This isn't China, it's Singapore and there are 4 major races here although the majority are Chinese. However, The IT industry does not necessarily follow the majority demographics as there are literally thousands of Indian IT people here.

Slacks, a decent pair of shoes and a business shirt minimum. Tie? if you are comfortable with it then go for it. I would. I would rather dress up and not down for an interview. It's much easier for the interviewer to tell you the company is more relaxed than that rather than the interviewer taking one look at a totally laid back individual and wonder if he's that lax at everything.

Day to day dress code would depend on the culture of the company you are working for. Wide range depending probably on the age of the MD/CEO.
