Hi,
My son is in K2 at Pat's Schoolhouse and he will be 5 years old this June. The K2 will end in December this year. I talked to a few schools and they said he needs to be 7 years old to be in Primary-1. Can't let him sit idle for 2 years either.
Can anyone give me a few schools that you know where there are kids in p1 and age is less than 7.
All replies appreciated.
Thanks,

he appears to have been placed in the wrong class in pat's.
my kid is 6yo and is in P1, but he turns 7 within the year. if you look up the MOE website on admissions, the age requirement states that children must be 6-8+yo by Jan 1 on the year of admission:

Actually I think he is in the correct class, he will be starting Primary One next year. I had the same problem with schools as they don't really seem to understand the age requirement. My daughter turns 7 later this year but is in P1 this year, we had several schools tell us she was too young to start P1 this year but we managed to get around the issue eventaully.
As viajera said the age requirement states that children must be 6-8+yo by Jan 1 on the year of admission.

Local schools allocate kids into years based on a calendar year. So your kid needs to turn 7 during the first year of primary one (anywhere in it).
You may need to keep him in kindergarten for another year - better than keeping him in grade 1 or 2 for another year, which is what I am now looking at with my own son when he was put in the wrong grade....

Thanks all.
He will be 5 and half in Jan and minimum requirement is six. I will try to call up a few dozen schools and see if any can take him.

I agree with the recommendation for another year of Kindergarten. My daughter is in P2 now but was the youngest in her class last year since her birthday is in December. She turned 7 in 2008.
Good luck!
