How2 make cheap call to India from Singapore? Calling card?

Post by arun_is_here » Sun, 22 Mar 2009 3:39 am

Which is the best (quality+price) to call India?

I searched and there are few other threads similar to this but the suggestion there is skype and I need a solution with no computer/internet. So please keep your suggestions limited to calling cards.

I used to think that it was either Mustafa calling card or Singtel Hello Card. Turns out there are better cards around.

Check out this thread on SgDesi for better options: http://www.sgdesi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2

Hope it helps!

My experience with cards has not been good, in that there are plenty of hidden charges. They are good for the number of minutes they advertise only if you exhaust the value in one single call. If you break the value into several calls, there is a loss every time a call ends. Further, many a times, the actual time left towards the end is much lesser than what the recorded announcement would say.

I have been using 1542, a post paid dialling service by Smart Tel. It costs about 15c a minute to call an Indian number and 5c a minute to call USA and UK numbers. The voice quality is excellent and they bill me monthly.

Another option one may consider could be Airtel which has been recently introduced here. The only snag is that it is prepaid and credits will have to be bought using a credit card.

Happy calling !

I m using Unity Star card (SGD10) for the past 2 yrs and found to be useful.
It gives you atleast 240+ mins and every call I make is mostly 1+ hrs.
By which I make 3-4 calls with every card.
HTH.

cheap calling card for India

Post by ainsg » Tue, 24 Mar 2009 10:41 am

The cheapest I have found is sold outside Mustafa Center. The card is called "India" yellow colored, and gives you SGD 13 value for the negotiated price of SGD 9 (UP is SGD 10). The card provides 500+ minutes for India calls.

NB - for calls to other countries it is less attractive eg. for Hkg it only provides 300+ minutes.

@anju_sg, thanks for pointing me to http://www.sgdesi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2

I didn't know that airtel had such a good promotion. I wish I'd been there earlier.

Hey anju_sg and arun_is you wouldn't be related by any chance? your nicks are similar and both newbies and both seem to be pushing a product?

Use www.nymgo.com get an account.
Install "Acrobits Softphone" on your iphone (make sure you buy the 9$ something codec through in-app purchase in addons section).

Calls to India are now under 0.01$ per minute........ cheapest you can do.
