Hi, I moved from the UK a few months ago and I usually go to indie clubs at home, by this I mean where they play music like stone roses, kings of leon, killers, oasis etc.
However so far in Singapore I've just found the music in clubs as mainly 80s, trance or rnb. I like the odd bit of dance but would prefer a club where they mainly play indie music.
Is there anywhere like this in singapore? any suggestions are welcome for bars and clubs like this!
Thanks

'Ice Cold Beers' (in Emerald Hill, Orchard) plays some good stuff.
I've heard mention that Home Club (Boat Quay) has an indy room. A regular DJ there 'Ginette' also fronts a local shoegazer band called Astreal. They're pretty good, a wee bit like interpol/blonde-redhead/Puressence. Oh the good old days
Give me a shout if you wanna check out Home Club. I'm on meds at the moment but ANYthing other than the cheese at Clarke Quay may tempt me outdoors

Hey,
I'm also from the UK and am really into indie music. So far I have found nothing but i'm going to Oasis in a few weeks if you want to join a few of us from where I work. If not let me know if you have any luck with finding bars/clubs as i'd love to check them out.
Cheers

Hey guys - big "indie" music geek here as well.
Check out Home Club, which is probably the only indie rock/electro venue here in Singapore. Pretty cool music. Maybe we should do a meetup for a Home Club night out one of these days.
A friend of mine owns another venue which houses live, original music - Prince of Wales in Little India.
I have some friends in the local music scene here who would update me on some gigs, but they're not that often.
Kaiser Chiefs are playing on the 7th of April btw.

i used to go to timbre at substation... the local bands there do covers on some days. Special mention to Jack and Rai, Singapore's homegrown talent used to perform there. not sure about now. you could google them and check out the bands playing.

Hey thanks everyone and Komakino I too am going Oasis. I can't wait, saw them just before I left in Liverpool and they were awesome so should be good here.
As for Home Club I will try and go there sometime soon. I'm probably away for business these next few weekends then am on holiday so it will most likely be in May but will try and see whats on then, will probably post nearer the time again.

oh wow, what a great thread. I've recently arrived from Sydney and am craving some indie action. If you're interested in getting a group to go out to Home or similar, together, send me a PM. Or replying in this thread works too. Seriously, one of the reasons I've been feeling sad about leaving Sydney is because I thought SG wouldn't have any indie venues.

Not knowing anyone or anywhere, went to wala wala on a friday...
good because didn't need to dress up - I don't really do that very well
good because live music v.v. good, covers kaisers, killers etc.
bad as was only one dancing and looked quite out of place with everyone else eating chicken wings and sat down
would love to meet anyone who goes out to dance, not because they are a fab dancer but because some music leaves you with no choice but to move, a la stone roses. would love to go out with people who just want to smile and not necessarily go out on the pull
i will continue to try stuff out, on my own I guess but would welcome company so reply or pm me. made a comment to someone the other day that perhaps with time I might start my own indie night... 'if you build it they will come'
I'm female, after a couple of mojitos dance like a loon, I work in film and yep I might be 35 but still a big indie kid and hopefully don't dance like your grandma.

Has anybody arranged a night yet?
starrystarrynight - I love the Stone Roses and many other bands from before that time (The Jam, The Kinks, Orange Juice, Joy Division etc etc) but I'm also into the later stuff (The Rakes, The Cribs, Futureheads, the Verve, KOL)
Let me know if you want to arrange something and maybe we could post our plans and let people come along if they feel like it.
Sound like a plan to get some action?
I'm 23 year old male, hope that wont be a problem!

right the challenge is on, to find somewhere not too fancy which plays all of that. better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all.
I even went scouting for derelict shop houses at weekend, somewhere that could handle a sound system, I'd need more time for that and a bit more cash but i'll ask around and do a bit of research.
So any clubs that seem to be heading in the right direction in the meantime let me know. I'll see what I can find out, it won't be instant as work is pretty full on at the mo but if in mean time you hear anything let me know.
bumped into ray davis once (literally) and fell speechless - pathetic really, my eyes welled up, I was young, what can I say...
