Poor IT salary ?

Post by kookiboy » Thu, 12 Mar 2009 5:22 pm

I'm a PR in Singapore (from Indonesia), holding a bachelor degree from NUS and with 2 years of work experience in the country. My field is in Java/J2EE development and support.

I have been looking for jobs for the past 3 weeks with poor/moderate success. Today I received an offer for $2600 / month at a small-ish local company (about 30+ people).

Is it a fair offer, considering the economic condition nowadays ?

lets put it this way, it's not the .com era no more. if you dont take it up, other people will. all depends on you if you want to take it or keep searching.

Sounds like to me that they are starting to pay what they deserve and not the hyped up salaries of yesteryear. Your niche is a dime a dozen now days with poly diploma holder able to do it and for numbers less than 2K/mo. So, to me you have a choice. Go back and work in Indonesia (don't have to tell you what that's like do I.) or bite the bullet during the recession and be thankful you have a job at all.

Thanks, it seems that the job market is in quite a bad shape in Singapore right now.

I know of a new Singaporean graduate, that started on 3000, so I guess $2600 is on the low side, although we do have economical problems in Singapore, so I guess 2600 is quite good for you, to make an entry, even with 2 years experience. Hang in there, you can improve on it later if you are lucky.
