Looking for pre-school around B. Timah/Holland/Orchard

Post by pbez » Wed, 11 Mar 2009 2:28 pm

Hello,

I've been searching for a pre-school/kindergarten for my 3-year old. I've been to most of the large schools (German, French, Canadian, UWCSEA, etc). The ones I really liked are either too far or have a too long waiting list. Plus, prices are extremely high. So, I've decided to go for a smaller school without all the infrastructure of a large school for now. Does anyone have a good school to recommend in terms of high quality education, good space, infrastructure, etc?

Tomorrow I'll be visitin the Buttercups Montessori at Holland. Does anyone have anything to say about this one? I live Bukit Timah, close to 6th Ave, so I would prefer a school around this area, and it doesn't have to be a Montessori really.

Many thanks,

Hi there,

Have a look at Rosemount Kindergarten. We did a price check, in regards to class size, curriculum, equipment and overall quality, and they were the best value, hands down. It's our first semester there and so far we are very happy.

It's in Siglap, I don't know if that's far for you, but I do know they have a private transport company that gets the kids to and from school safe and sound.

Here is a link if you want to get a closer look.

A the best :)

Hi cmorgan! Thank you very much for the advice. I checked the site for Rosemount and it seems to be the right school, but it is really too far on the east coast. Even if they would pick up my daughter, the commuting would be too long for her. I wish they had a campus around Holland or Orchard. Hopefully, other people here will be able to send me advice on nearer schools. Thanks so much anyway and good luck to you!

Hi Pbez,

My 3 year old daughter has been going to White Lodge Kindergarden on Linden Drive (right off of Dunearn Road) and she really enjoys it. The teachers are all very caring and concerned about the children, the classrooms and play area are clean and tidy and the curiculum is very academic while also letting the children explore and play. The school is very international, with a good mix of different nationalities. The new term starts this comming Monday, maybe you should have a look and see what you think?

I hope this helps.

Claire

Hi Claire,
Thank you so much for your help! I was planning on visiting this one this week and it is always good to hear something positive about it. I will definitely check it out, since it seems the sort of school I am looking for. Hopefully, they have space.
Take care,
pbez

Hi,

I can recommend Swallows and Amazons on Turf Club Road its a great Kindergarten. My son has been there for around 8 weeks and absolutley loves it - he is 3.5 years old a similar age to your son. The environment is lovely. He has always been a very shy kind of kid but has done so well there we are amazed. They offer full day and half day sessions. Jackie Barkham is the Director and you can arrange an inspection with her. Good luck. I am really fussy about kindergartens/nurseries and I wouldn't recommend a place lightly. BTW we are Australians and the school is very much modelled on our schools at home.

Ok, thanks. I will check this one, but I've visited the White Lodge and, although not perfect, it was good. We'll do a trial class this week. Thanks for the info!
