Any Australian Expats ? Elections ??

Hi All Aust Citizens
I Have relocated to singapore, would like to know do I still need to vote in local,state and federal elections while I am abroad.

Melody - yes you do if you are enrolled. See http://www.aec.gov.au/FAQs/Voting_Overseas.htm as a starting point.

You can elect to remove yourself from the electoral role - that site has details.

As a registered voter you will need to vote as all of Singapore is within the "have to vote" distance away from a High Commission. Give the High Comm a call and they will sort it out for you.

As soon as we arrived I removed myself from the electoral roll. To date after 1 federal and 1 state election never had any issues with electoral commission.

I recall I sent an email and received a reply confirmation (all information is as sierra2469alpha mentioned on the web site).

There is a form on the AEC website where you complete to advise them of your reloation. The form can scanned and send via email. They will email back to confirm receipt.

Not saying that you cannot avoid voting (I have for the last ten years) but what I am saying is that you are supposed to vote by law.

oh , thanks ppl for your info.

I downloaded the form (o'seas notification form) and selected to be omitted from the electoral roll
Confirmation was sent to me, when I return to Australia I will need to re-enrol .
