Knowledge Management

Post by dcool » Mon, 09 Mar 2009 2:02 pm

Hi, I've been offered a Knowledge Management Executive position in one of the statutory boards. Been with the training industry for the past few years. Never worked with a gov organization before. Hows the work culture in gov sector? How are the benefits and growth prospects? Not sure of the future job prospects of KM. Any advise appreciated.

Congrats on your job offer! I can't answer your query about working with the govt, but can give some views on knowledge management. KM is going bigger as the quest for 'knowing a lot of things within a short amount of time' becomes greater. A career in this field may not be significant now, but in the long run, it builds you up for greater things as organizations focus on learning and development and retention of staff.

I'm in e-learning, so here are a few sites related to KM from e-learning point of view:
1. http://www.elearningguild.com
2. http://www.elearningpost.com/ (this is by someone I know)
3. http://www.learningtown.com (join a group)
4. http://www.trainingmag.com
5. And of course journals on KM searchable from Google.

All the best in your new job!
