What is a common room

Post by Adamkl » Wed, 04 Mar 2009 2:10 pm

Dear All,

I have a chance to move out to Singapore for a job and I am currently looking at sharing for the first 6 months or so.

Can someone please let me know what a common room is in regard to renting? I am at a loss.

I would be working close to Tanjong Pager MTR, is that a cheap area to rent or sky high?

I am in my late 20's and would be looking to move my g/f over after the 6months.

Cheers and thanks for your help I am sure I will be back to ask more questions soon.

Common Room = No bathroom attached
Master Room = bathroom attached to the room

Tanjong Pagar is city area, don't expect to get anything cheap. The southern tip of Singapore (City Hall, Raffles Place, Marina Bay, Tiong Bahru, ....) is the most expensive. Then when you move away, usually becomes cheaper, and even cheaper if you go far from a MRT.

As usual, as in every country/city, the more convenient, the more expensive. You should think in terms of balance. How much would you pay extra for having some extra comfort/time?

You might want to look into the moving the g/f over a bit as it's not as easy as you think it might be. Do a search of the forum as there are plenty of postings on the subject.

Thanks for the information.

I had visions that a common room was like the front room or one you shared with others!!! I have a lot to learn.

We currently live in Dubai with everything on our door step but to save some money I am more then happy to adjust.

The g/f would be getting a transfer with work with any luck.

Thanks again
