Not married, having a baby, how to register the baby

Post by Lein77 » Tue, 03 Mar 2009 1:21 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me... Me and my partner are having a baby in May but we are not married. When you want to register the baby all the websites state that you need a marriage cert for registering....
We want the baby to have my partners last name, but i am not sure what they are going to do when we are register it here...

Is there someone who has gone through the same process???

Hi,

we had the same situation.

We just went there together with the birth certificate from the hospital.

My now-husband just had to sign and accept fatherhood. They took his surname, because this is usual in SG.

I insisted on my surname because in the country we are coming from, the kids always carry the mothers name ( when not married.)

Overall it was a 5 min procedure. No worries.

Cheers
