Work with video files
Hello,
I've never worked with video before, so I pretty novice in this sphere.
Which programs you can recommend to do simple operations with video?
How to compress enormous mpg-files? To what format should compress? What format is used on sites like YouTube?
A lot of questions, I think there are resources in the Internet about it, can you provide some links?

first get a decent codec pckage . These are needed to encode and decode your video.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_l ... c_pack.htm
k lite is pretty good to start with
Then get virtual dub
http://www.virtualdub.org/
free easy and plenty of tutorials
If you are looking for a one click solution then you'll have to spend money i'm afraid
XVid coded AVI's are currently the smallest decent quality video's IMHO
Good luck

dont see what the guys done wrong. all his recommendtions seem pretty good to me!!
DWK ....for once don't live up to your name
to OP
for simple cut and paste and encoding try virtual dub or virtual dub mod
both free and are fast. Plus they do a direct stream copy so no re-encoding ( quality loss) occurs.
Good luck
