PR Without Employer's Endorsement

Post by calvink » Mon, 02 Mar 2009 12:36 am

I am surprised to have been told by one of my friend that he applied for PR without his employer's endorsement on the form, just by writing a letter informing ICA that his current employer does not allow employees with less than 1 year to apply for PR. But he got his PR though..

Does ICA allow them to do so?

Yes. They have been doing so for at least 2 years. Of course it's easier if you do have sponsorship but the Government knows now that lots of Employers use the PR tool as a means of holding on the the employee for at least a year. Sadly, as an HR manager of an employer who has to spend a lot of money on employees training and certification by government authorities so that they can work on government contracts, it's a costly affair for us if they leave so soon. But, what to do......

Nobody seems to think about it from that angle. Course not all employers do the huge amount of external training that we do either.

Hmm..there is a reason why HR dont even provide payslip as my last payslip is in Nov.... Could i still apply for PR without a payslip but to show them the offer letter of my starting pay?

Call MOM and tell them that you employer did not/will not give you your final pay slip.

I had a look at the site and the FAQs, etc. and couldn't find anything there that would let you do it with the exception of going in and changing your appointment date. That should give you a new letter with barcode. (Why didn't you print it out the first time?)

Having said that, as it needs to be done with more than 1 day before the scheduled appointment, you might want to email them and the address at the bottom of the page to see if they can help. Otherwise, try changing the time/date of the interview. Or, better yet, call ICA and eventually, they will be able to transfer you to somebody who can help you. Just don't get too frustrated with the phone number punching system. I usually end up wanting to punch somebody instead of the constant numbers directing you to nowhere only to be cut off 10 minutes later. :x

Based on the checklist, some of the things needed are there there like my payslip..Is it still ok for me to submit?. I have wrote a letter with a company stamp on it. Can they accept that as a asubtitute of my employer' s endorsement.

Yeah, that should do it if it's the official company chop. Normally a letter just stating that the company would not furnish said letter is okay if accompanied by copies of your most recent/last couple of pay vouchers.

Hmm..given the current downturn...would it take longer than usual.. What happens if a person is retrench while his PR application is still pending approval.. Does it still consider valid or it would be evoke until he finds a new job..

calvink,

does it really matter? :???:

If it does, they will tell you to reapply in 6 months. If it doesn't they either give you PR or not.
