Reliable place to buy Canon Camcorders
Reliable place to buy Canon Camcorders
Hi
I am looking to get a Canon HD camcorder and would like to know if anyone can recommend a shop or shops. Also is there a website where I can check out the prices so I can bargain intelligently?
Thanks in advance

I'm going to offer up my advice and welcome people to flame away.
Check prices and spec's at Best Denke or other chain stores. Look online at Bestbuy.com, Amazon.com, etc and look at sale prices including shipping. Compile a short list and take it with you when you go to Funan so you're not tempted to make an impulse purchase. If you don't find exactly what you've priced from the internet, I'd recommend you take down the information on what's offered and go back to the internet for pricing.
I no longer recommend Lucky Plaza, Far East or Sim Ling Square as there are so many crooked shops; even if you manage to get something at a decent price, it's not likely they'll stand behind their product if there's a problem. I've bought from Lucky and SLS and managed to get a fair price but was armed with a lot of information. I've become tired of having to be more clever than they are and decided not to use them anymore unless I absolutely have to. With the economy as it is, you can usually buy it from the west and have it shipped cheaper than you can buy it here and you don't have to be worried about the quality or follow up service. If you don't want to buy online; go to Funan. The prices are a bit high but they don't seem quite as inclined to get their money by trickery.

Good post, pakjohn. I have to agree that it is getting worse than it was, say, 4 years ago. There are some good shops at Lucky, and some good shops at SLS but too many bad ones.
The gahmen really needs to put some teeth into the consumer protection laws, and not just for the locals. Especially at Lucky, the touristas get ripped off left and right, with no recourse.
