I wouldn't know whether it is legal or not but monitoring employee communications and whatever else they might be doing on the Internet is nothing unusual. My previous employer used remote monitoring which may be just internal policy and nothing to do with the law. All in all it would or would have been better not to use the company's equipment.

All of our email goes through an internal server with the exception of two accounts, the MD's and mine (HR & Finance Mgr). Yes, it is entirely legal to do so as it does use the company server even if a usage policy isn't in black & white. It can be deemed that while you are in that office, everything you do is company work so can be monitored.

If they are trying to terminate your contract and you haven't been paid, go to MOM, I wouldn't worry about the hotmail affair so much. Of course they have the right to monitor what you are up to on their computer setup. If you are being terminated for that, then you may have broken your terms of contract, either way MOM first, if you haven't been paid.

for compliance/code of ethics purpose, the company will have a right to snoop on your internet activities in case you leak information out that they are on the verge of bankruptcy, bad mouth them, IPO, money laundering, acquisition and merger, etc.

for compliance/code of ethics purpose, company has the right to snoop on you even in any first world country. dont know what sector your company is in but these days, most company will have some sort of snooping software installed for their network traffic. it is not illegal.
you were guilty of using a private email to discuss company issue. maybe it wont be as bad if you were just chatting about the birds and the bees, and probably just get a slap on the wrist. just like a company fone. if they dont check the bill, they dont know, then everyone can just use it for premium calls or IDD calls all day long. or imagine i should be working in the office but instead i do nothing but surf the net on singaporeexpats.com forum!

Methinks OP's lawyer told them to get rid of the discussion here. That or her boss also found out OP is surfing the net as well as sending email instead of working.

Yeah, considering he left a trail blatant trail when he registered. Never use a definable email address when you've got hotmail/gmail/yahoo mail to use instead!

How can I retrieve a deleted whatsapp thread? I tried locating ways to undo it, but seems like I can't..?
