Hi,
I will soon be moving to Singapore for a temporary assignment.
My company is intending to provide me with S$16000 for education for my children (each child 8,000).
Is that considered good and enough for the
International Schools in SG ? My kids are 3 & 6 years old.
Same question for car rental, does 2000 S$ enough for a 1.6 family car (Toyota Corolla for example) ?
Should I be satisfied or request more?
Thanx.

Can't answer the school fee question - but S$2000 for a car rental is more than enough especially if you are looking at a Corolla. Corolla or similar car would probably be more like S$1000 per month. You can actually buy a used car and spend under S$1000 per month for the payment - and probably get something with a little more room than a Corolla. You might want to look into buying a used car when you get here.

Sorry - just re-read your post. If you are only here on a temporary assignment & not long term I guess there is no point in buying a car. It would be better to rent one. You'll do fine on the amount you are getting.

I think you forgot to mention if the S$2000 is for the whole period of your assignment or a monthly allowance. S$2000/month is not a problem for car rental.
S$16000 sounds more like a year's allowance for your children's education needs.

Good point, Guest. I was working on the assumption that the S$2000 was a monthy allowance, but if it is a lump sum, it will probably only cover about 2 months of car rental costs for the Corolla-type car you are interested in.

2k would be enough but it depends on the travelling distance and does your work area need to enter into the ERP zone?

$2000 is sufficient to lease a car. Try to go for some reputable companies.

Hey Stylezmind, that post was over 4 years old,
Why are you digging up all the car rental/purchase posts?
The last thing you want, is people to accidentally get the impression you are a second hand car salesman, I mean what an insult that would be.

What?
Nasty Louis Vuitton white belt, fake rolex with a way too big strap, bad news ring tone, chews with mouth open and a strong whiff of upholstery cleaner?
A local second hand car dealer?
