Career change during recession

Post by desdemona » Tue, 03 Feb 2009 12:25 am

I'd like to gather various opinions on changing career during this period (looming recession and all). Most probably the majority of you would say it's next to impossible, but I'd still like to see different views.

The reason I'm asking this is that I'm finishing my master's degree soon and considering my options to either, a) Stay put in my current job that's not so fulfilling, or b) Find a new job as graduate in the field that I want.

My current job is consulting and the field that I want to enter is risk management.

Any opinion (as long as it's not rude / demeaning one) is appreciated :)

Lot's of people will be changing their careers during the recession. Not necessarily by choice. So, you won't be any different that a big chunk of those who are affected directly. Probably the best time to change. You might find yourself out of work anyway if you don't? I've changed major directions several times during my working life (which spans over 40 years now).

Whole heartedly agree, what better time to experiment than when times are tough? Scout around till you find something you are passionate about and ride it to the top as the economy recovers.
