Seeking mothers group

Post by rluk » Mon, 02 Feb 2009 9:32 pm

Hi,
I have just arrived in Singapore 2 days ago and have a 10 week old baby son. I am seeking a mother's group in Singapore, as I missed this opportunity in Melbourne, Australia, as I moved here before I could start in a mother's group there. I am living in Tiong Bahru with easy access to the MRT. Any chance I could come and join in the mother's group you have up and running Helen? Would love to meet some other mums and to make some new friends.

Cheers,

Liz

Hello. We're all seeking mother's groups. Me, for example, live in Choa chu kang and I rarely meet expats but I do have some friends though It is really hard to find the right person to meet regularly. All seem to be very lazy to go further from the city or just out there condos.

Hi there,

You could try looking on the New Mothers' Support Group website which has a 'play group' finding facility on it.

They also run socials once a month at Gymboree Tanglin Mall where you may find people to hook up with - I think it's $25 for a year's membership and then $5 per social. The website will tell you more.

St George's Church up on Minden Road runs a playgroup for the newly arrived or newly sprogged which could be a good starting point too. I've not been myself so I suspect others will be able to give you more accurate information.

The best of luck to you

Seeking Mother's Group

Thanks to you both for your emails. I appreciate the time you took to reply, and to offer starting places for me and my son to join a group and meet friends and new people. I will give these a try.

Kind regards,

Liz

American Women's Association has playgroups for different age brackets. Members only though. Don't have to be American to be in the AWA. May want to check it out.

Good luck.

Mum's group

Hi Liz

I am also from Melbourne but we're not moving to Singapore until Easter. However, I'd be happy to meet up with you. My little boy is a bit older though - 16 months.

Hope you are settling in...

I find myself in a similar situation. Albeit I am a SAHD, stay at home dad.

I arrived here two and a half weeks ago. I have a 10 1/2 month old daughter. I always manage to arrange our day to include activities for her, but she definitely misses the intereaction she had with other babies.

We were part of a mothergroup/playgroup back home in melbourne. We would meet once a week just to catch up and let the babies run amok and play and say g'day to each other. It's true, you never miss your water until the well is dry.

If anyone can offer suggestions for any groups operating within the Riverside district, though with public transport the way it is we can travel quite easily, I would be highly appreciative.

Kindest regards,

Anthony

I haven't yet made the move, I will be in Singapore around July end and target to rent a place near Tiong Bahru MRT. I am a working mother, so want to setup playdates over the weekend.
