East coast and Avondale or Australian International School

Post by sixofus » Sat, 31 Jan 2009 9:09 am

Hi all,
We are coming in April from Aus and are looking at living in the East Coast (Costa del sol maybe) and sending my two eldest children to either Avondale or Australian International School. Is there a school bus - does anyone on here do this? Is it sensible. Dad will work at Wilkies Edge.
I'm coming over soon for 2 days to check out schools etc ... just want to narrow down where I look as i'll only be doing a flying visit.
Thanks!

I inquired about the Australian school bus and I am a little closer to the school than you and my pick up time was 6.50. But it all depends on bus routes and such so ring both schools and find out what time the "pick up" will be. Both schools will have buses.
For Primary there are schools with Australian/UK/Canadian teachers that will be closer to the east coast with a shorter bus ride, such as Eton House and One World International School but of course the school year starts in August.

I was told that there is a bus for the aust school pretty much devoted to kids from Bayshore and Costa Del Sol. You should have no problem living there and getting the bus. Don't know anything about the other schools though.

Hi, we live at Bedok and my daughter just started One World International School last term. It is on Upper Changi Road not far from the Expo. You can Google it for more details but we are very happy thus far.

Sorry to bring up this Feb post. But I wil probably be living in the East and this School's calendar suits me well since I'm coming from the US and starting in August certainly would help.

I haven't found any reviews or comments about it. Can you tell me your experiences and what you liked about it? My girl would start Second Grade (US) she is 7 turning 8 in November. Any help would be appreciated.

Have not heard really anything about One World. You may want to consider the new American school. Stamford American School...

One World is a small school - there are only about 8 kids in my daughters class. It follows the IB PYP curriculum so is enquiry based learning which is great. the Principal is a great guy (he was from AIS for 7 years). I think it's a great school to start as all the kids from all the year groups know each other and interact with each other. The school bus is free, and the facilities are very good.
The best part I like is that they do Extra Curricula activities every day of the week, but unlike other schools that tack the extra stuff onto the end of the school day at One World all ECA's commence at 2pm - 3pm so they still get home at a decent time each evening.
At the last school ECA's were twice a week and it meant my daughter (age 6) didn't return home until 5:15pm.

Hi my daughter who just turned 8 goes to this school she loves it. Definitely come for a tour when you arrive the staff/kids are lovely. We live close by and it's really nice to be able to get to school in 5 minutes! They have plenty of interesting things to do, tennis lessons and Capoeira are my daughters favourites at the moment, there always seems to be something interesting going on.

try Avondale

Post by Lulu Mee Lah » Wed, 22 Apr 2009 6:26 pm

Hi my daughters (6 & 7) just started at Avondale and it's been a great beginning. There are twelve kids in each of their classes and their teachers have already picked up on things that their previous school overlooked. Avondale are also strong on the extra-curricular but it is optional and outside school hours so doesn't eat into the academic tuition hours. We like it. Definitely worth a visit. The community has been so welcoming which is also important for the entire family.
