My husband and I are considering moving to Singapore for a few years. My husband is a currently a science teacher (currently a science head teacher in Australia) and is looking for a job in an
International School. We have no idea what salary he might earn. Anyone have any idea?
In Australia we live on 2 incomes. I am in banking. We pretty much don't need mine to survive here. As we have 3 sons under the age of 6 I am hoping on not working in Singapore (at least to start with). I want to know if we will survive on one high school teacher income over there (keeping in mind that we require accomodation to fit the five of us in). Will we have any money left to save for travelling? What quality of life will we be able to afford?

Hi, here a quick guide-
Accomodation will set you back about $3k-4k/month near AISS.
Food is subjective ~$300-500 per week if you want beef and fresh Aussie milk.
Utilities ~$250-$300/month for 3 bedroom apt.
If you want pre-school/kindi for the kids then its about $600-1k/month/child.
Private schooling is about $1k+/month/child.
Then there's the mobile phone(s)/cable TV/cable internet etc...
Actually, thinking about it, it isn't too different to Sydney.
Cars are expensive, taxi/bus/MRT travel is cheaper here though.
Tex.

You can get cheaper accomodation if you rent an HDB.

I doubt a teachers salary would be enough for 5 to live on here. Teachers are usually the trailing spouses of a much higher earner here or both spouses are teachers. You may get one child fully paid for at school but you wouldn't get all when they eventually need it and that's 2k per month per child.
I think you would need to work to have a semi comfortable lifestyle. Be aware that children are leaving schools at the moment so it's unlikely teaching jobs will be abundant either.

If you are international hire normally in the better internationals schools
you should be offered
*accomodation allowance 2000-3000 on average
*schooling for two dependants
*for a teacher of 10 years experience i would say salary in the range 5,500-8000
*flights
some school pay a graituity of 10-15 % at end of contracts
