Hello all! I tried searching and couldn't find anything specific about my question, so I'm hoping I'm not duplicating a previous topic. My husband is considering an asst. prof. position at NTU. I am wondering if anyone has lived in the staff housing there and how they found it. We have 2 young daughters (4 and 6 months) and live modestly in a 1000 sq. ft. home in the States. We would not want to bring much of our own furniture, so we're wondering as well how well furnished the housing is.
Would a 2 or 3BD faculty apartment be similar in terms of space? The OHR site says the housing is "subsidized" but they don't list rent prices. Does anyone have any information on this? I know they will tell us in the offer package eventually, but we have a competing offer on the table and will have very little time to make a decision, so anything I can find out now would be great. Also, what else is reasonable to expect in the relocation package? Moving expenses, airfare, interim housing are listed as benefits, but it does not mention return flights home or settling in allowance. Are either of these offered to faculty ever?
Thanks so much in advance for any responses!

I've seen the outside of the faculty housing at NTU, and they look quite nice. I'm sure the subsidized price is very good. BUT it's on campus, and the NTU campus is very isolated. With small children it may be difficult to do much without a car or a whole lot a patience to wait for busses to get you off campus. Does the package include a car/transport allowance? Make sure you get the rental prices before you sign the contract--and make sure thay actually have room for you too. NUS faculty housing is full and bursting at the seams! Good luck!

There has been no mention of a car/transportation allowance. I think we would be ok without one though, so long as buses can get us around. We lived in the DC area for 2 years with a baby and I was used to it taking an hour by public transportation to get anywhere and now we live in a small city (100,000 people tops) and we're used to having nowhere to go:)
I will make sure my husband asks about availability as they have made it sound like securing faculty housing is no problem. Thanks so much for the information.
Has anyone been in the staff apartments? Or word of mouth on whether people are happy with their accommodations there?

We were in DC with a baby too and can relate, you'll have very similar experiences here in SG. Bring a good stroller with you--that stuff is crazy expensive here! I have a friend at NTU who loves the flexibility of being on campus, and wouldn't conside rmoving off. Not sure it's the steep price discount or what, but she seems very pleased.
We also moved here from a town of less than 100,000 and my husband is loving it! He works from home and is a stay at home dad. I'm sure you'll like it as well.

Hello guys,
Anyone with information on the actual amount academics at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) pay for the subsidised housing? The available information doesn't indicate the exact amount. Many thanks

Housing Policy in Singapore
Replies: 1
First post
What do you think would be the next housing policy to cool the demand?
I noticed new condo launches are selling like crazy and prime HDBs are going...
Last post
Yeah, prices are getting wild — even resale HDBs in mature estates are creeping past $1M regularly now.
My guess is they might tighten loan limits...
