Qatar Airways first day selection turns out to be bad

It was really a bad experience going through the Qatar Airways selection on the 17th January'09. It was a long wait after the presentation and speech given by the Qatar Airways. All about opportunities given to individuals and not based on quotas as presented by them turns out to be just a saying. How can they select the candidates based on cv, resume and photos alone. Does it mean that those documents speaks for the individuals as well? It would also mean hidden potentials are not given any opportunities at all. It would be rather fair if everyone given the chance to interact with the interviewer and share their experience rather than based on those documents. It's damn irritating and on top of that those who appeared during the selection almost most of them does not understand English. 'Orderly Manner'!!!!!!!!!Is that a difficult word to understand..crap

Oh well

I do agree the long talk on life in Qatar is redundant at that stage.

FYI,there were 42 in all who got selected for the 2nd round. Majority foreigners.

I hope that by posting this i won't get thrashed or slammed by other readers.

When i go for an interview, let it be an airline or any other jobs, the advice i read online or from books is that, it is my responsibility to present the best that i can to my potential employer. It is not their responsibility to realise whatever talent or hidden traits that i might have. Imagine you are the recruiter and you have so many interested applicants?

" You never get a second chance to make the first impression "

This is a line i got from a great airline interview advice book by Becky S Bock. Which i find very true. How a person carries him/herself when walking up to the desk to submit the CV, the initial smile, "hi, good morning how are you today" - if any, the way we respond to simple questions in that short 10 seconds -- all these are first impressions, which is what a cabin crew gives to his/her passengers on board & the general public when the crew sashays through the airport in full uniform, representing the airline's image.

I agree with another poster below that there could have been an information overload with the videos or talks even before any selection begins, but think of it from HR point of view - if there are "blursters" who walked-in without any knowledge of the job and they happen to be selected, it would be a waste of each other's time & resources in the end. One might say that hey, the person going for the interview should have found out about these already, but it is afterall a walk-in, not a shortlisted group of applicants, HR has a reason to choose to recruit in the "information session" sense.

No offence to anyone, please. If one really wants the job, he/she will keep on trying without bothering too much about these nitty-gritties, i believe. Ultimately the job is about making sure passengers are safe & happy, no more worries about roudy recruitment events or even rude recruiters etc unpleasant stuff you would have already went through.

Cheers & regards-lindyhoppe
