online savings account in €

Post by donking07 » Fri, 16 Jan 2009 2:31 pm

Hey folks

as singapore has a very friendly tax policy to foreign money i would like to have an singaporean current account which i want to keep in €(I'm German with residence in Germany)
I found this offer from USBC:http://tinyurl.com/85mgot
It seems uncomplicated but the conditions are poor(no interest, fees).I doubt that this is the best singaporean bank account i can get with its over 170 banks.

So could you suggest me some banks in singapore you made good experiences with?
I'm especially looking for virtual banks, because conditions are noticeable better there as one's know.

TIA,
the don :D

Hey Don, the URL didn't open for me, but are you talking about the HSBC Premier Multi Currency savings account?

Can you advise what you need your account to do - is it transferring $SGD to Euro or pound etc? Or are you after a more traditional savings account?

Ta, P

Hey again Don, well, we're with HSBC Premier (check their site to see if you qualify). If you want to move money back and forward HSBC Premier allow you to do this fee free - basically, if you are Premier in one country you are Premier everywhere else. So, for us, it works (we need to move money around a little - too many things in too many places).

What I will say about HSBC is that they aren't the greatest in the world - more the better of an otherwise bad bunch.

So, a suggestion: keep your euros there - invest them somehow where you can get access via the internet with HSBC (or whomever). Of course, if you draw them down into $SGD you'll always pay an exchange rate difference, but with HSBC Premier you won't pay BANK fees on each drawdown/repatriation.

The Premier product you're after is the "HSBC Premier Multi Currency Savings Account". They will include that free if you ask them nicely ;)

When we moved from Australia (last FEB) we looked at a number of options, including Standard Chartered, Deutche Private, ANZ, DBS, HSBC, etc. - you know the usual big ones. HSBC Premier worked for us, but Deutche were a very close second.

Hope this helps...P

ey ey,

yeah thanks that was an informative post.
I thought that there would be sooo many other good banks i don't even know, but i have probably called or mailed 40 singaporean banks and the only banks who take customers with so less earnings than mine seem to be HSBC,finatiQ,rhbbank and two or three others

think i'll go to finatiq bank as virtual banks always have better conditions.
If you or anybody else knows some more virtual banks in singapore-let me know :)
