Humm.. there is no need to pay the $5000 bond, you can get insurance waiver on it. On top of normal insurance, its about $270+ for the term of the contract.

Chixchix, perhaps try your luck at the agencies if no one on this forum has any helpers to transfer.

Hope this is useful......

If I have to forfeit my $5000 deposit in the case that my maid gets preggo, I'd probably prefer one without a boyfriend, too. I've known at least two cases of maids getting pregnant and their employers getting into huge trouble.

Furthermore, if you have kids you want a maid with a very low risk of getting into any trouble. It's hard enough to find a maid who you can trust with your kids. You don't want to have to repeat the exercise a few months later because she gets herself 'in the family way'. It's also not healthy for kids when the maid keeps changing.

I think it's horrible that maids here aren't allowed to have bfs or get pregnant, and are basically treated like second class citizens, but that's how it is. I don't have enough money to risk my $5000 trying to stand up for their rights.
I'm confused as to why you lose 5000 SGD? Why does an employer get into trouble if the helper gets pregnant? As far as I know, helpers can have boyfriends and get pregnant, they just can't expect to remain in the country to give birth if they get pregnant. The employer would need to repatriate the helper, but depending on where they come from, it may not cost 5000 SGD to do so.

Potty mouth? What sort of f****** word is that? God you must be a Pom.

Hmmmm, is that 9 posts now? But hey who's counting.

Have a lovely night. Toodles.

baby, your typical ozzie belligerent stereotype is shining through in all it's glorious belligerency! You shouldn't be posting when you've got a snoot full! Nobody in the right mind would post like that if they were sober. Really, you should have a read of your last couple of posts, you are really starting to sound like a stereotypical whanker from down under.

Unfortunately, because is the law here. The 5G is the bond you have to post to have a maid. Should she get preggers here you may well forfeit your bond AND have to repatriate her, possibly you may have to pay to deliver the baby as well. It sucks but that's the way it is.

However, it is still not a reason to treat an employee as a slave or chattel.

I'm wondering if anyone has considered treating their maids as adults. Discuss the issue with them, suggest that they take precautions and maybe even pay for the pill / injection if they request it. That way you don't have to worry about losing your money and your maid feels respected. They know that they will have to go home if they fall pregnant, so why not help them help themselves.

Exactly, I agree.

I'm going to have check into this whole bond forfeit issue and why the employer gets into trouble if the helper gets pregnant. It is completely illogical for the Singapore government to expect employers to monitor the bedroom behaviour of their employee or else get into trouble if the employee gets pregnant. Is this why some employers in Singapore keep their helpers under lock and key and don't allow off-days? Just in case they will get pregnant? I'm just speechless right now.

Batgirl, it shouldn't surprise you at all. Don't forgot, they don't call this a "nanny" state for nothing. The government micromanages even down to your own bedroom. Did you know that oral sex is against the law? It is if it doesn't lead to 'normal' sex. In their eyes - that means leading to procreation. You aren't even allowed to walk around nude in your own home. If one of your peeping tom neighbours in the condo 3 floors about you and facing your unit with a telescope or binoculars or camera with a big zoom lens sees you, they can report you and you can be arrested even though the jerk with the binocs is the perv.

Lots of rules/laws here are illogical but it doesn't stop 'em. Yes that's why maid are kept under lock & key here.

Transfer Maid

Post by LMM » Tue, 20 Jan 2009 1:30 pm

I would like to transfer my Filipino maid who has been with me for 4 years when her contract ends in mid-March 2009. She is reliable, can cook well and very clean in her house work. For the last 4 years, she never give me any problem.

She also gets along very well with my children. She is very patient with my children, however, I am not too sure if she is experience with infant or not. Btw, she is also very good with old folk.

Her current salary is $360 and one day off.

Please do let me know if you are interested.

moral values anyone...

Isnt everyone forgetting that most of these maids are married and already have husbands & kids, so getting pregnant or having lovers is actually adultery...but i guess most people are ok with adultery and extra marital sex these days....no harsh comments please...as a person who believes in and practised abstinence ... i dont wish to get any rude comments on this...its just a question of personal values and honesty. and this goes for everyone not just for people who are less
fortunate.
PS- lots of lovers = more chances of catching STDs

She's been with you for 4 years and you like her work, but you only pay her $360 and give one day off... is that per month or per week? I hope she chooses another employer who will pay more and give more days off.

Kareena, no one in this thread is encouraging their helpers to get pregnant and commit adultery. The point is, one can't keep one's helper under lock and key in one's house because one assumes she will be promiscuous and get herself pregnant.

Transfer Maid

Post by LMM » Wed, 21 Jan 2009 12:22 pm

I don't have enough posting , so can not PM.

My maid can cook both Chinese and Western food.

She is my house keeper, so I let her manage everything i.e. marketing, cooking, houseing cleaning.

Please email me at [email protected], so I can provide you with the WP number.

Thank you.

Not all the maids are married. There are single ones out there.

For the married ones, it's a hard life they live. They don't see their hubbies but once a year, and they work like all get-out to support their hubbies (who usually live the easy life and don't work), and their children. I don't think it's fair to judge them so quickly for wanting a little companionship here.

I agree with the idea of talking to them and making sure they protect themselves. For maids who do have bfs, my first question is what sort of protection they use. I don't mind a maid with a bf if I get the assurance that she is responsible about it.

of course everybody needs friends, how about platonic friends and its not like women cant survive without men! i'm sorry but sex isn't the "only" thing in life....and then even with protection you cant be sure there won't be accidents...its only 98 percent effective...a lot of people get pregnant anyway...and do u think that married or single , they can actually afford to have another baby?...think about it...if they dont have bf/ lovers its for their own good- no ones stopping them from having friends!
