moving with my girlfriend?

Post by alexparis » Thu, 08 Jan 2009 9:31 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to move in Singapore in one year in a research lab. My girlfriend would like to come with me but we are not married and we won't be. Is it possible for her to come with me in Singapore with a kind of touristic visa, find a job, and get an Employment Pass? How long could she stay with a touristic visa? when her touristic visa will be over, how long will she have to wait to come back in Singapore?

Thank you for your answer.

Alex

Speaking from personal experience:

Does she know you guys won't be married? That's an important conversation to have with a girl.

As for her visa, she can stay as long as her visa says, usually a month, do double check. If she doesn't get a job (to convert to employment pass) within a month, you guys can always make a trip north to Malaysia, the nearest town Johor Baru, and come back in on the same day to get a new visa stamp.

The best option is, she should start applying for jobs in Singapore (if she hasn't already) now, and come together with you as an employment pass holder. This reduces future domestic that could potentially happen due to immigration status stress.
