OpenFlights.org -- free flight mapping tool

Post by jpatokal » Tue, 06 Jan 2009 7:49 pm

After six months of toddling about in beta testing, my newest little baby was pushed out into the big wide world today, so I'm going to show it off to y'all:

OpenFlights

To quote the FAQ, OpenFlights "lets you map your flights around the world, search, filter and categorize them in all sorts of interesting ways, calculate statistics automatically, and share the resulting maps with friends and the world — if you want to." For example, here's my own flight map:

http://openflights.org/user/jpatokal

Which reveals that, as of today, I've flown 495008 miles (half a mil, here I come!), 179876 of which on SQ, and have spent 46.5 days of my life sitting on a plane, including going through Changi 197 times. :o

The whole site is free to use and open-source. Give it a spin and let me know what you think

Trying

Post by Asdracles » Wed, 07 Jan 2009 1:38 am

Im just trying and I realize a couple of little problems when edit a flight:

- The class and the reason, that I can skip to select when creating a flight, appears with a default value when editting. I can't remove it (Economy class, travel for business)

- If when I edit a flight, I just modify the airline, I can't save changes. I must modify something else (delete the destination and writting it again, as example)

Still playing a bit with it, only the flights I can find the dates with my current passport...

Double-oops! Both should be fixed now. Thanks for the bug reports and let me know if you find any more...

Funky feature of the day: OpenFlights can now show you maps and lists of all flights operated from virtually any airport. With ~53,000 routes, this is an easy way to find out what airlines fly between (say) Singapore and Phuket. Just enter the city, airport or airport code into the Search box to get the map:
