I would pay it through the date I was leaving. I don't think our contract states who pays but we received a bill for the past tenant so we had it switched to our name and paid it at the post office. We're leaving in March so MDA said we could go online and cancel it and we'd get a refund of the unused portion.

To be clear, I'd go to the post office personally and pay three months of the tax. If I recall correctly there's a form on MDA website you can print off so you have all the required info for them to enter when you make the payment. I now see the date of the original post so certainly you've already paid something by now, so advice for future people who read this.
