Packages from Overseas

Post by cbavasi » Fri, 02 Jan 2009 9:46 pm

since we've been here we've never had a problem receiving packages from relatives abroad - but usually they are quite small. my parents sent a box for christmas from california on december 3rd and it still hasn't arrived. my mom said it was pretty big (toys for the kids) so i was thinking that maybe it would take longer to clear??
she sent it priority but didn't insure it - has anyone had a similar experience during the holidays?
better yet - seen any suspicious looking character with a dora backpack and ben 10 bedding? 8-)

Our packages from Australia usually take 7 days but took 14 this time. One month does seem an extraordinary amount of time.

I've had Xmas cards to to china before arriving here. I've also sent stuff to the US (Maryland) and when my mother got it three months later it apparently sat in Wisconsin somewhere for 2 months. Another time it was waylaid in Phoenix Arizona. :???:

The US postal Service is something else. Haven't you even wondered where the term "going postal" came from. It can drive you nuts! I've also received packages in a little as 5 days from the east coast of the US and decent sized & weight. Anything traveling during the month of December will likely not arrive until mid January if you are lucky. Two Xmas cards sent to Maryland 10 days before Xmas still haven't arrived. Of course, they had some pretty severe weather for the holiday season so that could also impact the mail as well.

I purchased my sat nav from the US in November, it took 10 days, that was express! With Christmas as well, I would say give it another couple of days, before making enquiries.

thanks for the responses - i hadn't really thought about it much b/c things always take longer during the holidays - but my poor mom is beside herself that the package didn't arrive. :(
