Canadian Intenational School - which campus?

Post by Debbie007 » Thu, 01 Jan 2009 3:20 pm

Hello. I am just new at this forum and hopefully someone can help.
We are moving to Singapore in July 2009 and I have been doing as much research as possible in regards to Schools. I've chosen the Canadian one since we are Canadian but am open to other recommendations. Has anyone been to either campus and can give me advice on both? I will not be able to go there before we move so am hoping to receive some feedback from other parents with experience. Or has anyone found a great International School that they are happy with? My son will be 7 so assuming he's going into Grade 2.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

Sorry forgot to mention am deciding between the Campus at Toh Tuck Rd in the West and the Campus at Tonjong in the East. Which one is better and what is the area like around both?

Thank you.

my son (5 1/2) goes to Toh Tuck (West) campus - the acedemic year is dependent on date of birth - they are currently building a new campus though, i think the move will be 2010. the current campus is small, not as plush as some of the others, but very freindly, good staff and my son enjoys it very much - I have never been to the east campus so have no comparisone there, but we did look at several alternatives in the west and are happy with the choice of CIS

I'm happy to hear you like CIS West Campus. I've started to hear good things about it as well. Overall it appears to be a small campus although the school my son goes to now has only 200 children so small is relative. I've also heard that the teachers are very friendly which is also very important. The other schools in the area also appear to be very impressive but massive! What are your thoughts on some of the other schools? Did you go and see Tanglin or United World College as well?

UWC yes, we went to see and honestly, if we get a place, we may consider changeing and sending him there. It is much larger, and really goes for high achievers, extroverts, good sportspeople etc.. has a longish waitlist so CIS was initially the second choice - we have no regrets and depending on a number of factors, we may just leave him there, especially if the new campus opens and he likes, but changeing to the new campus would be similar to a new school. I liked the UWC campus and the fact that there were kids from 4 - 18 around, great facilities, very multi cultural - but that was me - My son is very, very happy at CIS (West)

It is a hard decision isn't it, especially when I can't go and see them all but it sounds like they are all good schools for different reasons. I really do appreciate your input. You mentioned that you are on a waiting list. Do you have to pay a deposit for every school you apply to and do they hold onto it until you are accepted? What happens to it if you change your mind?
