What's With Sammyboy Forum?
I've recently come across the SG sammyboy forum and am absolutely shocked at the open racism that goes on there - against all foreigners in general - many of the posters are decent, but so many also throwing blatant racist (disgusting) remarks against any nationality not their own, and specifically against one PR in particular who seems to post there regularly, regardless of the abuse he gets - don't know why he doesn't give up. It's fair enough to not be happy with their government, but some of this stuff aimed at minorities is downright too amazing to believed... checkout the general chat as well as the 'emigration matter's' section...
I thought there were laws against this stuff??

Which is the only reason the government hasn't shut it down. It's tried before but no go. Shame most cannot string 5 words together in a coherent sentence though.

Freedom of speech I can understand - no problems - but after reading through many of the threads there, I have even seen direct violent threats against foreigners in Singapore and 'calls to action' to attack foreigners. When does free speech 'step over the line'? - world history has shown that this kind of 'racist under-current' in a country has proved to be very dangerous. Is this sort of stuff not covered under the SG sedition act? If it's hosted offshore, can it not be blocked to the island like some other sites are already?durain wrote:freedom of speech?
Anyway, I've said my piece... just still cannot believe what I read online sometimes.

It's almost as bad as some of the left-wing skin-head neo-nazi sites in the US ain't it!
By blocking it that would make the government look more paranoid than they already are wouldn't it? Anyway, everybody knows the regulars there are a bunch of nutters who are good at spouting off at the mouth but with little to back it up. Kinda like the one who wandered over here last week. See how schizoid he became at the end?

just like Westboro Baptist Church (google it) in the US of A. because of freedom of speech, american civil liberties, first amendment rights, yadi yadi yah, they can carry on what they do! and that is just one example!
ok, so slightly off topic with regards to the OP but with the internet is a global thing, the only way to ban the site is via the ISP/internet pipes, just like how china ban the BBC Chinese website or malaysia ban access to malaysia today.

Congratulations, I do believe you're the first expat ever on this forum to call for more censorship in SingaporeUSCitizen wrote:Freedom of speech I can understand - no problems - but after reading through many of the threads there, I have even seen direct violent threats against foreigners in Singapore and 'calls to action' to attack foreigners. But it's not hosted in Singapore and Sammy himself lives down under and (AFAIK) is an Oz citizen as well, so there's zippo that the Garmin can legally do about it. I suppose they could block it like playboy.com etc, but the Sammyboy forums are split into separate porn and non-porn sites, and Singapore hasn't yet banned any purely political sites -- doing so would be awkward and probably just draw more attention to the site (cf. Streisand effect).
Also, I don't see what you hope to accomplish by banning the site. Like it or not, it's real Singaporeans writing real opinions in there, and if anything, I think it's a good reminder that this society is in reality nowhere as near tolerant, multicultural and peachy-keen as you might think from reading the Newspaper That Shall Not Be Mentioned alone.

Some posts being made on various forums in light of the US elections has been very disturbing. The Secret Service will have its work cut out for it trying to keep the president alive if you consider just some of the "call-to-arms" posts.
