spinning sound from laptop when turning on

Post by wrcboi » Thu, 25 Dec 2008 10:20 pm

hi,

got a problem with my lappie, everytime i switch it on theres a sort of spinning sound coming out from it... the weird sound comes from approximately the bottom left, down of the keyboard...usually i have to restart it twice before theres no sound...apparently if the lappie is shaken the sound reappears...

is the sound coming from the hard disk or the fan??its out of warranty so..

can anyone rectify the problem

thanks

cheers

could be fan or hdd on it's way out. time to do a good backup of your hdd before it goes. you could install some software utility to check the hdd over.

to rectify the problem, your laptop need to be taken apart to examine where exactly the sound is coming from.

Reformat: use the BIOS. Depending on your compie BIOS you either have to hit DEL or F8 key immediately after starting up and the CPU kicks in.

when you reinstall the OS, you can delete the partition and reformat the hdd.

Best to throw it in the bin if its an Acer :D only joking :) I felt i needed cheering up, I had a brand new Asus, last year 3000$, and lost my temper and threw it down on the floor, so i can vouch for the quality.

I took it to the doctors to get repaired across from Funan, but they said it would cost more to replace the monitor, everything else was still working fine, so i was really impressed, considering it was a deliberate act of frustration  Acer on the other hand haven't been able to survive that long.

Just plug in a CRT and continue using it. Only works if you are at home though, rather than planning on visiting your local Mcdonalds to surf the net.

I would check the CPU fan first. Depending on the model of laptop you may have a removable panel directly over the CPU fan which can be unscrewed. Chances are, if you use your laptop on the bed and floor as my wife does, it's FULL of carp and hair and needs a good clean out.

had the same prob. Took it to the Toshiba service centre. The guy switched it on, held it close to his ears for 3 secs and said 'mmm..your fan got problem'

off topic. my warranty was over but the guy said he will try and get it done for free subject to approval from his boss. he did that in the end. So for anyone going for a new one, I can recommend Toshiba. They've got good service here in Sing
