but seriously ...what to do lah.
There's always going to be resentment of one form or another whatever we do.
My Singaporean mother in law lives and works in Shanghai...why....because her skill set is useful there. Is she frowned upon by some locals there? Of course she is. But she choose to go there much like i did here.
Take it on the chin and get on with it.

I must admit i do love some of the more "aggressive" forums and blogs. Makes you realise how stupid and racist some people are , especially from behind a keyboard. In general i find them quite entertaining and am often tempted to join in ( Especially after a few beers :D )
I put those locals in the same category as the arrogant expat Pr*&s that give the gross of us a bad name.

Come the revolution i just hope the wall is big enough 8-)

I'd have to agree with you, or say that that too is how I've found it, where as forks' comment about foreigners made to feel unwelcome is something I have not come up against

maybe there has to be a distinction between the types of foreigners - the office types and the laborer types, the latter of which I could see as being more subject to unwelcome advances

The fact that the government makes their citizens compete on equal footing with expats for their jobs has ensured that an attitude of "guaranteed job" and entitlement has not prevailed ....

I haven't felt singled out because I am an expat,...

You haven't really ever met a Canadian ... have you ? :p

bah.. lts call it what it is - plain old jealousy. not much to do with expat/fw etc.. someone makes more than someone else and they're jealous of that. plain and simple.

interesting about SG being more accepting of Western and Chinese/confucian culture than Indian or others.. could you expound on that?

You've been here a couple of years now. What's there to expound on? How many times have you hear the PM, SM or MM expounding on the desirability of Hindi philosophy as a way of life here in Singapore? Oh, you haven't huh? Neither have I and I've been here when all three of them were PM's. Nothing to expound on.... :P
