hello,
I was wondering whether you give year end bonus to your helper? If so, how much? This is the first time we have a helper and was considering to give her a year end bonus instead of buying her a christmas gift.
thanks

I'm sure she would appreciate it more than a christams gift. We give ours an extra months salary (also because my wife is chinese singaporean, she gets another month at CNY) If she has been with you for a year or more, then this seems fair to me, but I'm sure you will get different opinions.

A 13th month payment would be nice. She has been helping you with the chores for the past year anyway. Be generous...

What if your helper has only been with you for 2 months, 1 of which we were on holiday?

If she has been with you for only 2 months, why is there a need for a 13th month bonus?

Because its Christmas, its the only time you can be a bit generous?
Because its Valentines Day, its the only time you buy flowers for your wife?
Because its Mother's Day, its the only time to meet up with your mom you have not met for the past year?
Am I missing something here? My pastor teaches me not to take people for granted. He told me to treat people as though its Christmas, Valentines Day, Mother's Day everyday. So err....what should I tell/ask him when I see him again?

You should tell him that you don't need his very cheesy quotes as you are perfectly able to think for yourself.

If 2 months, maybe just a "red packet" to show your appreciation? Maybe 10-20% of salary? Any value will be appreciated and perhaps motivate her this coming year.
