EPEC or tourist pass.. please help

Post by isherry0411 » Wed, 17 Dec 2008 3:59 am

hello,
i've had a lot of good reads here, very informative. thanks to everybody. :D
im currently considering applying for a job and moving to singapore after a year. and i'm thinking of applying for EPEC but as I have only two years experience i'm kinda worried of getting rejected, can I just get a tourist visa and apply for a job? what are my chances of getting hired in tourist visa? im a bachelor degree holder of business management and im going to pursue culinary or hrm this year. whats the starting salary for no experience in that field? thank you very much for any information i really appreciate it.

lastly, im a bahraini. are middle easterns discriminated in sg? if yes,how badly? :(

im more westernized because i grew up in my mother's country and not in the middle east..

for you to work in singapore, you need a EP. the employer will apply the EP for you. so you will only get a EP if you been accepted for a job. a EPEC is like an extended visa for you to stay in singapore to look for a job. once you find a job and all goes well, you will get a EP. one thing you cant do in singapore is to work illegally.

you will be OK in singapore being an arab woman. lots of modern arab woman in singapore. you will just blend in with the crowd.

the chance of getting a job depends if your skills are needed in singapore. it is OK to go for a job interview on a social visa pass.

EPEC is not linked to your job experience, but bases heavily on your degree and where you obtained it. If you think that looking for a job will take you more than 2 months, apply for EPEC. But it is a very troublesome thing, as to get an extended visa using it you have to do medical exams and such, so better get a job in first 30 days after you come here.

oh thanks a lot for that! i dont think my university is listed under the recognized unis in the EPEC category, but i'll still give it a try..:) and as for the tourist, i think my other nationality is allowed to stay in singapore without visa for sometime.. oh dear! fingers crossed!!!! :) im really looking forward to singapore, experiencing the country and visiting the nearby countries as well.. :)

maybe re-entry would work instead of extended stay? i do hear its easy to cross the malaysian border..
