I know most people are annoyed by touting, I think I remember hearing that Singapore Government took a line against it.
Usually touting doesn't bother me, even aggressive ones as there's room to walk past. But on Orchard road, when walking from Emerald Hill to Centerpoint with all the sidewalk work; you cannot get past all the Jewelry store touts. They literally stand in the middle of the walk and form a gauntlet.
Annoying as it is, it serves to remind me of the contrast in culture. You can look a person the wrong way in a town like south east Chicago and get thumped, never mind cramming a flyer in their face and screeching "have a look!" lol!
