Students in England don't pay taxes?? That helps to explain why the rest of the population pays such a huge percentage....
Seriously, the company you are going to work for should be able to advise you on the tax situation - I would ask someone in HR and get a full understanding from them - there might be some sort of tax break for you as a student on your English taxes. (Admittedly, I don't know too much about how your tax system works, but I assume you will also have to file in England as well as here.)

How are you going to live on $1000.00 a month.
Even on the cheap its a hard call - Singapore can be very expensive.

See iras.gov.sg under salaried employee - you'll probably pay very little tax

Is that US$1000 or S$1000? US$1000 is pretty bad but S$1000 is barely survivable. Do you get any benefits: housing, transport, ...?

OK, your choice lah - But have to advise you, you will be doing it tough and your savings will evaporate quick smart here.
If I was you I would ask the company your staying with to at least give you somewhere to stay - Please.
