Expat exodus

Post by o-zee-expat » Mon, 15 Dec 2008 1:42 pm

Hi. Does anyone know when the largest turnover of expats occurs? Is it midyear or around now? I'm needing to move at the end of January and am thinking it might be better to start looking in ernest in early January because I think many expats would have moved out before Christmas. Just wondering how reliable this thinking is. Thoughts anyone?

not very reliable. there's no period of expat turnaround. they come and go whenever.

i would say Feb - March as it's bonus season now and give 1-2 months for people to pack their bags and leave cos they can't survive without a good one

I agree with durain. Expats come and go. No specific period when there will be an exodus.

welcome to Singapore
Makes no difference - anytime is same - just walk in with you bags, rest all is available in Singapore

Yep with Durain on this one - no specific timings. Although the concept proposed by quids does have some merit IMHO, assuming it's a large MNC and their bonus giving (or taking!) is during those months.

In terms of looking for work, o-zee - might I suggest that you look for the right role for you rather than basing it on timing (or have I misread what you are asking?)

HTH, Mr. P
