Teaching in Singapore

Post by Jonah » Thu, 11 Dec 2008 8:14 pm

I've been teaching around the world for eight years which has taken me to some wonderful places. Teaching isn't at the top of the salary ladder but it does have it's benefits when traveling is concerned. In between contracts i've been to Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Burma, Malaysia, South Korea and Australia.

I would like to know the educational requirements for teaching in Singapore, where to look for teaching jobs and who to speak to on the teaching circuit in Singapore. As i've mentioned teaching hasn't been a real bread winner but has supported a decent life.

I'm working as a teacher overseas at the moment at an International School although wouldn't mind a chance at teaching in Singapore. if I like it when I arrive on the 15th Decemeber i'll begin searching for employment. If anyone has any information about teaching English in Singapore please post here.

Cheers All

Check out the websites of the International Schools in Singapore. They advertise teaching posts from time to time. You could also get in touch with MOE (Ministry of Education).

Best of luck

And if you want to teach at one of the International Schools look at each school's website. Some hire year round. Check previous posts about teaching on the forum too.

Sorry just re-read your post, didn't see that you will be here 15 Dec. What might make this difficult, is that most schools will be starting their Christmas holidays fairly soon after you arrive, if they haven't started already. Again check out the school's websites, as least you can find out whether or not if they are still opened. Good luck.

I just got my SIngaporean LPR and planning to go to Singapore for teaching secondary school (O level)

Currently, I am still teaching in school until May 09 after that move to Singapore
Since the teaching regulation and requirement may differ from my country
I want to know any important information regarding about teaching career.

Hope we can continue this discussion...

@Jonah
How about you Jonah? Already got the job?
