Swimming lessons for babies

Post by Matmat » Wed, 10 Dec 2008 10:33 am

Hi, :)
I'd like my 6 month old to start swimming lessons in January. Can anyone recommend swimming lessons for babies?

Plaza Singapura has a baby spa that does swimming for babies. They put this inflatable ring around the baby's neck and let them float in some big tub.

A recent New Mothers' Support Group talk was presented by:

www.aquaducks.com.sg

which looked good. I've not used them though so cannot give a personal recommendation. You could also look at hiring a teacher to come to you (if you have access to a local pool obviously!) though I suspect this is quite expensive unless you can get a group together to share the cost. This might work quite well though especially as your little one is young so lessons will probably be shortish?

that place at plaza sing - i always think it looks really odd!! the ring around the baby's neck I mean. HAs anyone tried that before?

My baby isn't here yet, but I want to do swimming classes for babies too once I am at that point. But real swimming classes, not baby-floating-in-tub-with-ring-around-his-neck. Anyone in the east knows of any good places for this that I could look into?

We go to Marsden swimming school (google for web page). They have 3 locations, Holland Rd, Turf City and Fusionopolis (spelling???). At least at Holland Rd the outside pool is heated and has a roof, so if it's raining, no problem.

We do aquaducks and have done from 8 months and baby really enjoys it. good fun, playing and mixing with other babies and gets them used to the idea of kicking, holding their breath, "jumping" in and swimming under water. Small class sizes, quite a few locations and timings as well - do weekend and weekday classes. Not too expensive (compared to lots of things) although we were on a waiting list for a few weeks, so might be an idea to contact them sooner rather than later. Would probably say that she enjoyed it more from about 9 months when she was able to take part a bit more, but useful for her to be in the water regularly before that.

Check out their website and give them a call to see what suits you, we go to Tanglin which is a heated, outdoor small pool which is covered as well so some shade from the sun (and rain)

Hi, thanks for all the replies!
I just called Aquaduc but all their classes are full and I'm second on the waiting list!! Not sure if they will open a new class (must be 6 babies...)
I will try to look for other swimming classes

Swimming classes for 2-year old toddler

Post by katnik » Tue, 20 Jan 2009 3:58 pm

Hi, has anyone found an AustSwim trained instructor that they are happy with? Aquaducks don't follow the AustSwim program and Marsden seems to have no places available for a 2-year old toddler.

If anyone is interested in putting together a swimming class at a condo, let me know.

Hello,
I would also like to go to a swimming baby class with my 6 month-old daugther and heard about Aquaducks. Do you know what we do during a session?
Thanks!

Information on the Aquaducks program is available at their website http://www.aquaducks.com.sg and they offer a free trial session so you can see how your child will like it.

Hi,
I called Aquaducks last week to get more info and they suggested me to go for a trial class. I could choose between 2 locations: Tanglin Village and Science Park. Did any of you already go to both pools? What did you think of them? One better than the other?
Thanks in advance!
Sandrine

I only visited their Tanglin Village location - which is very good. A decent size swimming pool, nice and clean, change facilities, tables/chairs, no mosquitos.... all good.

We went to Science park for a trial lesson with my 6 month old. It was OK. Science park was the only location that had an open spot. It was fun and baby girl did enjoy the swim. Pool area was clean and large. Heated water - which is good.
But l felt the lesson was too rushed and l just felt like the swimming teacher was going thru her routine - she had a class right before us and then another just after us. She looked and felt ( too me) run off her feet. I'm looking at Marsden swimming school too - but they are currently closed for school holiday's and don't open until the 16th July.

I can understand going for lesson if you dont have a pool or if its a teenager trying to perfect their strokes. If you have your own condo pool, and its a toddler we are talking about why not teach them yourself?

Its been great fun teaching my sprog how to swim and dive into the pool.

There is an Oz lady teaching swimming in the condo I will try and get her details.

Swimming Lessons for Babies

Post by TammyB » Wed, 15 Jul 2009 10:32 am

My son (8 months) goes to Marsden Swim School (started at 6 months). We originally travelled to Turf City but were wait listed at Holland Road and got a new class there after about 3 weeks. I found the instructors at both locations to be really great with the kids, understanding if they were having a grumpy day and overall the kids really enjoyed themselves.

I would recommend using them.
