Best cow's milk for toddlers?

Hi there,

I've been looking at follow on formula for 1-3 years but am shocked by the sugar content so I now want to switch to Cow's milk, my daughter turned one two weeks ago and I heard that you can give them cow's milk once they are one, what is the best milk in Singapore? I have been trying the Australian brand (Farmhouse the pink one) but it seems like she's losing weight??! Please advise, thanks!

Mine have the australian milk too or the one from new zealand (with cow on it, can't remember the name!). As long as it is full fat, it should be fine. That's what toddlers should have. Is she eating ok?

Yes she's eating well enough, she has an extremely sensitive gag reflex so it's been difficult feeding her solids, she still eats only pureed food any lumps at all she gags and throws up, so right now all she will take that she won't throw up is baby cereal stage 1, I add vitamin drops in her milk every morning, i'm just worried that she might lose too mcuh weight!

We typically use Farmhouse, Pura or Greenfields in our house. Is your daughter walking? When they start walking or crawling a lot they are burning more energy so she may be losing some of that "baby" fat.

EG7 - i think we posted at the same time - i just saw your post about the gag reflux. you may want to check with your pediatrician about the nutrients she is receiving through cow's milk, cereal and pureed foods and if that is enough for her.

Speaking on behalf of my great home state of Wisconsin--America's Dairyland--I have also seen Organic Valley milk sold in Tetrapak packaging. They will also occasionally have Organic Valley fresh milk sold in the dairy case--though it's quite expensive.

My daughter was an Organic Valley whole milk consumer in the US, and she's hearty and healthy.

Whole milk is a really healthy way to go much better than powdered milk.

I read the fine print on the websites for some of the "Australian milk" and I am pretty sure that Pura is the only milk that is from grass fed cows located in Australia. Greenfields is from "Australian" cows that were shipped to Indonesia and kept in a shed they do not graze on fresh grass, you can read their website for yourself.
Farmhouse milk is by F&N who also sell magnolia milk, F&N will not tell you where Magnolia Milk comes from except "around asia." which kinda makes me wonder what the exact make up of farmhouse milk is.
The other good milk is Cleos Milk from L'Organic which is totally fresh and whole and has not been processed. You need to drink it within a week and it only comes once a week.
Organic Valley also looks good - I have never bought it but I think it has been ultra pasturised (which means extra processing.)

splat - that is really interesting information. i thought that farmhouse was from australia - but i just went to read the carton in our fridge and it's all very misleading. hmmmmm....

i'd love to use the organic valley as the sole milk in our house since we've been trying to go organic as much as possible - but honestly with the amount of milk that is consumed i think we'd be in the poorhouse! thanks again tho for posting that interesting stuff.

yes i got quite obsessed with working out which milk was best hehe. I can't really work out farmhouse either so I usually buy Pura first. I buy the raw unprocessed and organic Cleo's milk as much as I can but I think it's even more expensive than Organic Valley!! It does taste amazing though.

I would buy Organic Valley milk (back home four pints only cost £1) but it's a bit too expensive especially as my daughter drinks so much of it! Will try out Pura...I just don't really trust Singapore milk...I bought one buy Magnolia and it stated on the box 'added flavourings'!!

defo read the label where the milk is coming from. dutch lady states on their website their milk is from holland, australia or NZ but pack in malaysia.

FWIW, there's some scientific evidence that goat milk is actually closer to breast milk than cow milk, and there's a goat farm right here in Singapore that sells it direct:

I think Pura is actually very good - depending on the season even better than organic valley, because the cows eat grass and absorb sunlight. I was reading up about butter one day and the most nutrient dense butter comes from cows eating freshly growing grass and out absorbing real sunlight it is also a rich yellow and some almost orange. Depending on the season (winter perhaps) "organic" butter could be made from cows in a barn under UV eating certified "organic" soy meal - which is obviously not natural. I once bought some organic valley butter and was dissapointed that it was almost white - it was winter in the northern hemisphere at the time. The New Zealand butter I buy is rich yellow, the soil in NZ is very fertile and I think the butter is much better from there even if it is not "certified organic."

When we first arrived here I bought Magnolia milk and my daughter kept throwing it up, if you look at the texture of it I think it also has milk powder added.

Pura obviously has the best and most natural taste. The worst milk I tried was HL, I hope i remember the name well... Pura rules.
