Extension of Short visit visa Validity

Post by kuttss » Wed, 03 Dec 2008 1:52 pm

Hi

I am an indian Passport holder and have a multiple entry singapore visa for short visit valid till 1/1/2009 and I am travelling for a while in south east asia..I came in from Hongkong and I got my Embarkation card. I applied for extension of my short term visit and it has been extended by a month till the end of january.I will be flying out to borneo on 4th and wont plan on coming back to singapore till the end of my travel which is going to end in vietnam and I will be back to singapore then to fly back to India...So I have a couple of queries

1)Will my extension be valid if I get out of Singapore since my visa is multiple entry

2)I already have a return ticket from singapore to India and I wont be staying in singapore during the validity of visa and will be passing by again just before the validity expires

3)With the current extension will I be able to enter singapore again anytime during the validity

I could not find any details regarding extension in ICA website. It would be grateful if someone could share some knowledge on this forum

Regards
Kuttss

If you have a multiple entry visa, and the validity of that visa was extended, then yes, it should be good for multiple entries! But give ICA a call instead of trusting advice from random strangers, you really don't want this sort of thing to mess up your travel plans...

Here is what I understood from few interactions/conversations with ICA:
- social visit pass establishes how long can you stay in SG, social visit pass granted on ARRIVAL to port of entry by border control
- visa establishes when and how many times you can come to SG

These are independent documents.

Extending of social visit pass is basically extension of validity of your IMM 27 card aka Visit Pass and it applies to that pass only. The moment you surrender your white IMM 27/Visit pass your visit is over from ICA perspective and issuance of new IMM27 upon subsequent arrival will depend whether you have valid visa at the time of entry.

I would really suggest go down to ICA and lodge application for VISA (there is a checkbox on Form14 where one could indicate what is wanted: just the visa, visa + pass). Get new one into your passport and be done with it. You will need a local sponsor though. If you don't have one you may have to jump through some hoops with your embassy that can issue a letter in lieu of local sponsorship or Singapore MFA (check www.mfa.gov.sg, they have consular officers in SG that are similar to consular officer in overseas mission). Anyway for you country treatment could be slightly different so as suggested please check with ICA directly.
