FDW Levy Concession

Post by amiee40 » Wed, 03 Dec 2008 10:14 am

Hi

Just want to double check that foreigners are not eligible for FDW levy concession even if they have children under 12.

A few agencies told me that we can get concession but reading the guidelines, it seems to be only applicable to Singapore citizens.

Any comments?

Thanks

If neither you, your spouse or your children/grandchildren/parents/grandparents are Singaporean you are out of luck.

As expats earning sufficiently higher incomes than the average Singaporean you shouldn't complain though as the domestic is a luxury that not all the rank & file can afford.

I thought so..Perhaps the agency was just telling me so that i can hire one of their domestic helpers.

Minus the rent here and in addition to the long working hours here, in monetary terms we are not better off as the low income tax makes up for the high rental. No free health care here either.

I am not complaining about the situation, here for the experience.

Thanks SMS for clarifying that for me...

From my readings of the various documentation, although foreigners aren't elgible for the Foreign Domestic Worker Levy.

Working foreign women (married woman who live with their husband) who are deemed tax resident (> 183 days in Singapore) are eligible to claim the Foreign Maid Levy Relief as part of their (the woman's) tax deductions, to "offset against your earned income".

Sorry men aren't eligible to claim this deduction.

Different thing. This is a reduced levy which is much better than the tax break you can get.

Yes you can claim FDW actually. However this claim is only for working women.
