Just remember people, each standard disposable diaper takes around 200 years to degrade. Those diapers will be in the landfill for a couple of generations. A good alternative is Moltex Oko disposables, but they are expensive!

I highly recommend going with cloth diapers. My absolute favourite are BumGenius one-size pocket diapers. You just scrape or hose off the poop into the toilet, stick it in the diaper bag or pail. It isn't bad at all when out in public, just put it in a bag or two and stuff it at the bottom of the buggy or in the diaper bag. These cloth diapers take only 1/4 or less of the laundry soap you usually need for a load, and they dry quickly because they are synthetic. (Though I see that BumGenius are now making diapers with organic cotton on the inside, so those will take longer to dry.) Mine have lasted beautifully with baby 1 who is now almost 2 yrs old, and baby 2 is on the way and I have diapers ready to go. There is an initial investment, but they pay off already with the first child and then cost nothing but water, soap and electricity after that! (and they don't use much of those because of the material of the diapers - so easy to clean).
http://www.bumgenius.com/ When you are done having children and don't want the diapers, just sell them on. They may not degrade as easily as cotton diapers, but then many babies will use them before they start to wear out, so that still saves thousands of disposable diapers in the landfills.
