An Anxious mum looking for a right kindergarten for her kid

Post by minglove » Sun, 30 Nov 2008 4:58 pm

Hi! Everyone!
I am Korean, Looking for a good Kindergarten in Singapore as we will be
moving to Singapore shortly -March 2009 at the latest- due to my husband work situation.
My kid is a 5 years old girl, and can not speak a word of English.
As my priority is for my girl to learn English I think it would be best if i
send my girl to an International Kindergarten.
I'm quite anxious as my child is very shy, so I am looking for a nursery with a very friendly and relaxed environment. Preferably with low children to Teacher ratio.

Any recommendation and advice will be greatly appreciated!

I recently visited Avondale Grammar and it may be what you are looking for. The school has a total capacity for 300 and currently has < 120 students because it's new. I think their 3-5 age group has only 11 students so with 2 teacher per class it will be a very personalised experience for your daughter - which is what they sold in the tour. The students are quite international but it will vary by year/class. The school is based on the australian system. I Most International Schools are very large (with some having 400-500 students in the kindergarden years alone) so it's best to go and see a few before you make up your mind. I will also say that large numbers don't mean that the experience will not be positive - it just depends on your needs. Good luck!

Thank you so much!

I will sure look up for Avondale along with Chatworth East campus.
Those two are the schools that I'm most interested at.
I think the most important factor when I look for school is the kind of teachers they have as my girl is really timid she will need a lot of individual attention in the beginning.

Your advice is really helpful!
